Whitsunday Island Glamping & Camping

We escaped the main land last weekend to try and test our new island glamping experience. We ventured out to Crayfish Bay on Hook Island. Sheltered by a large rocky headland to the east and towering mountains to the north and west, this is a picturesque, very secluded camp spot to set up at.

We spent 2 nights here at the beach campsite, backing on to the dry rainforest of Hook Island. Just metres offshore there is beautiful, expansive fringing reef which made for some amazing snorkelling.

We took our kayaks over with us and paddled up the river to the west of the camp site at high tide, discovering little hidden beaches and an amazing mangrove system. We also kayaked in to Mackerel Bay and went for several snorkels. It is a short paddle over from the camp site and there are moorings available that we tied our kayaks on to while we explored the reef.

We had the whole campsite all to ourselves!

Crayfish Bay is absolutely incredible. The mountains and rocky cliffs surrounding the campsite are picturesque and the fringing reefs have plenty of marine life. There was even turtle tracks from nesting turtles along the beach! It’s a great place to snorkel, kayak and explore.

With 15 camp sites to choose from over 6 different islands, no two island camping getaways will ever be the same! We have created this island glamping package so you can camp out in comfort and style and experience the beauty the Whitsunday Islands has to offer. It was perfect weather out on the islands during our camping trip and now is a great time of year for island camping as it is more exposed on the islands and a bit cooler than the mainland.

Having experienced this setup firsthand, I had the best time on Hook Island. Getting there was easy using scampers water taxi services and the setup was super simple. The spot was amazing, with 360′ views of the breathtaking mountains and stunning azure-coloured water it made for the perfect spot to relax and unwind in style. Everything was included in the package that we needed for a carefree island getaway.
